Livestock Guardian Dogs
Armenian Gamprs
Armenian Gamprs were bred to protect sheep traversing the caucus mountains starting as early as 7,000 years ago. Caring for their family is literally in their DNA — they bond very strongly with their humans.
They were bred for their personalities and skills, and less so for their uniformity in looks. They are genetically diverse dogs. That makes a good lot of them genetically, very healthy – like our dogs, Abe and Maya!
Armenian Gamprs almost went extinct. Our Gamprs are part of a conservation program for this heritage breed. The more time we spend with them, the more we realize why these dogs need to be preserved. They are really just great dogs.
